Permafrost High Frequency Quest: Order, Bugs and Patch Status
Stuck on High Frequency in Permafrost? Check the radio-building order, the October 11 quest fix, early tower repairs and co-op host responsibilities.
Short answer: build the radio at your base before repairing the tower radio. The October 11 hotfix allows High Frequency to progress while Hopes and Dreams is still active. If you repaired the tower before High Frequency started, the developer still lists that action as a possible progression blocker; the hotfix does not explicitly confirm a repair for that case.
Checked October 12, 2026, for PC Early Access. This guide covers the developer-confirmed order and known blockers, rather than an independently tested walkthrough of every objective.
What the October 11 patch changed
The official Quest Fixes & Steam Invites announcement confirms that an unfinished Hopes and Dreams quest should no longer prevent High Frequency from being completed. That is a specific fix, not a statement that every radio-related problem has been resolved.
| Situation | Status at the latest check |
|---|---|
| Hopes and Dreams is active alongside High Frequency | The October 11 hotfix fixes this conflict. |
| The tower was repaired before High Frequency started | Still listed in the official quest issue post; recovery is not confirmed in the hotfix. |
| Hopes and Dreams recordings were collected before the hotfix and do not register | Some affected saves may remain stuck. This is a separate recording issue. |
For recording locations and that old-save exception, see our Hopes and Dreams quest guide.
The radio-building order to follow
The developer's quest workaround post identifies the important dependency: the base radio comes first, the tower radio second. Use your current journal objective to check where you are in that sequence.
- Check that High Frequency has started. If it has not, avoid repairing the tower ahead of the task.
- Build the radio at your base first. Do this before the tower repair.
- Follow the active objective to the tower radio. Repair it after the base-radio step, rather than treating it as an unrelated exploration interaction.
- Check whether the journal advances. If the action does not register, compare your situation with the patch-status table above.
If gathering materials is holding up your base construction, our Copper location guide explains the early mining route and tools. Use the interactive Permafrost map for navigation; a map marker alone does not tell you whether a quest step is ready to complete.
Already repaired the tower? Identify the blocker first
Write down whether the repair happened before High Frequency appeared in your journal or after it started. That distinction matters when describing the problem to support.
The official post also connects an early tower repair with The Way Home. There is no verified reset command or repeat-repair procedure in the sources checked here. Rather than trying unrelated quest interactions, preserve your current save and report the order in which you completed the radio steps.
Who should do the steps in co-op?
The developer advises letting the host complete main quest actions. The official co-op guide also explains that characters belong to a particular world: joining another host's world does not bring over your solo character.
Before reporting missing progress, confirm that your group loaded the same host world as before. Record whether the host or a guest built the radio and repaired the tower. Changing worlds is not evidence that the original quest has been fixed.
If High Frequency still will not advance
Send your save through the developer's support file hub. Include the journal objective, whether you play solo or as host/guest, which radio you completed first, and whether the issue began before the October 11 hotfix. A journal screenshot helps distinguish an uncompleted objective from an action that failed to register.
For other quest and connection problems, use the Permafrost known issues overview. If the game closes before you can check your journal, follow the startup crash troubleshooting guide first.
